Patriotic Rice Krispie Treats

I try to always make something for every holiday, it helps me get in the spirit! This is the first year that it did not feel like the 4th of July. In Ohio, at least where we live, there aren't any firework stands anywhere, I did get to have any watermelon, and the weather has been really crappy. Nonethless, we still got to go see some fireworks (in the rain), which seemed to help.
So this 4th of July, I went with something super fast and easy, yet fun at the same time. I found this cute little idea on pinterest via lilluna.com.

Patriotic Rice Krispie Treats

 ------------------------------------------------

Ingredients:
6 cups Rice Krispies
6 TB unsalted butter
3 cups mini marshmallows
Gel Food Coloring (Betty Crocker)

  1.

2.

3. 4.

5.  6.

7.

Directions:

1. In a bowl, add 1 cup of marshmallows and 2 TB butter.
2. Melt the marshmallows and butter in the microwave for about 1-2 minutes. They should quadruple in size.
3. Stir the marshmallows and butter until thoroughly mixed.
4. Add about 1/3 of a tube of blue food coloring
5. Mix together until the mixture is solid blue.
6. Add the rice krispies. Once the everything is well blended, put the mixture into well-greased 8x8, 9x9, or 9x13 dish.
7. Press the mixture into the dish until it is even dispersed and flat. (Since it will be very sticky, you can get your spatula a little wet and try to flatten the krispies out.

Repeat all the steps again while making the second layer without food coloring, then the last layer with red food coloring.
